Introduction.
I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I
received my drivers license in 1975. While the muscle car era had
ended by then, these cars were readily available and they were CHEAP!
Additionally, my dad owned an Auto Parts store, Mt. Prospect Auto Parts
in Mt. Prospect IL from 1972 to around 1982 or there abouts. After
that, he owned Williams Automotive In Des Plaines IL and did all kinds
of minor and major car repair including engine R&R and trans R&R.

In the heyday of my dad's parts store
in the mid to late 60's, I very much remember lots of cylinder heads and
blocks coming through to be machined in our machine shop. I also
remember lines on Saturday mornings that were 3 and 4 deep behind the 4
counter people helping customers get their auto parts. Eventually
I became a counter man too. We also sold PPG Ditzler Automotive Finishes
of which I still have color books from around 1955 through the early 80's.

I am also an old car buff and I personally
own a 1968 Impala Sport Sedan. I get a little upset when I think
about what the big money crowd has done to the hobby. True old car
buffs love to work on and DRIVE their cars. Unfortunately, the big
money players have turned large inventories of classic cars into their
own personal portfolio of trailer queens to be sold to the highest bidder
at some future date. This is a tragedy for the average person that
wants the thrill of buying and DRIVING a classic car. This along
with the rapidly escalating price for parts either NOS or NROS are making
it increasingly difficult for the younger generation or later aged entrants
into the hobby. While their is a place for trailer queens (museums!),
the average Joe still wants to buy, fix and drive these cars.

This posting is meant as a protest against
the money crowd and a help to the average Joe's like me. These PDF
copies of these invaluable original Chevy Parts counterman's parts guide
is information I purchased on-line. I decided to post them here free
of charge so that the average Joe getting into the hobby can see that their
are other like minded people that wants to see them have fun in the hobby
without being nickel and dimed to death for every piece of information
that can help them rebuild, restore, repair their classic chevy.

Tutorial;
To use these PDF's is really quite simple.
The parts guide is divided into 15 major sections. Sections
0.000 - 9.000 covers every part in, on or under the chassis. Sections 10.000 - 15.000 cover the Body Group (body side moldings, window moldings,
door hardware etc.)

Take note of the master index. If
you know the name of the part, this should quickly help you locate the
proper section to look into in the associated parts guides 0.000 - 15.000. Additionally, the corresponding Illustrated
Parts Guide for each section is also invaluable in verifying you are looking
for the right part. Some of the illustrated parts do NOT have part
numbers but a location number to look for in the parts guide section.
For example, note line 1 in the screen
shot below of the wiper motor section for 65-69 full size chevy in the illustrated parts guide...

It says "1. 10.150 CASE
w/brushes"
Thus, to locate the GM part number for
"10.150 CASE w/brushes";
Open up Body Group 10.000. DO NOT try to find page number 150 or you'll get confused!
As you scroll down the pages, you'll note that each sub-section heading has a number associated with it. In this case, sub-section 150 begins down on page 11. Page numbers are listed at the bottom middle of each page. In this example, 10-11, or Section 10, page 11. IMPORTANT!!! In the PDF window, the page numbers window may show 17 / 122, this is because of blank pages and the index at the beginning of the section.

3. You can see all 3 elements
highlighted clearly above in this screen shot. At the top, the section
and sub-section number 10.150. In the middle the part numbers are
highlighted. Here the key column is the far right column (column
6) all parts for each sub-section are listed in alphabetical order and
the KEY word is the word in ALL UPPER CASE from the illustration guide,
in this example, the key word is CASE. Once you locate the KEY WORD
in column 6, check for the model and year application to the left in columns
1 and 2. The 3rd column shows the GM part number that you can use
when inquiring from your parts source regarding the availability of the
part. The 4th column with the numeral 1 shows the number of parts
needed for replacement, in this case, just 1. Column 5 appears to
be some sort of pricing information. Either list price or dealer
cost??? Finally, the bottom of the screen shot shows the page number
10-11.
4. So the correct part number
is 4918810 for 65-75 full size passenger car. This also is the same part
number for a 75 Chevelle. (Useful when scrounging junk yards or swap meets!
5. Using the keyword CASE, you
could also open up the Alphabetical Index page. Scroll down to the
'C' section and look for CASE. Once you find the first one, notice
the lower case entries are in alphabetical order. In this example,
CASE, Windshield Wiper is clearly shown, along with the section-subsection number (10.150). Getting the hang of it now?!
6. Last, if you really get savvy
and KNOW which section to open up first without consulting the master alphabetical
index and/or the illustration guide, each section guide has it's own index.
Enjoy, if this is helpful, I'd love
to get a quick e-mail from you!

ps. The each Illustration Guide has an index that lists the page numbers based on a key phrase shown in UPPER CASE.
Also, put your thinking cap on if you don't find something the first go around. Example, I was looking for the part number for the emblem that goes above the glove box. So I looked for glove box. Could not find it. Then I looked for Instrument Panel for my 68 and I found a nice exploded illustration on page 10-60 of the Illustration Guide. I then went over to the parts guide for 10.000 and found the bezel part number in section 10.252.

pss. ...an excellent source for part numbers for the interior is the Assembly manual. You can find them all the time on Ebay. These have detailed drawings of the location and part number for numerous interior and exterior parts that may not be listed. It seems that both book 11 and 11A are quite complete, but may not be 100% complete for all years and models of interior trim parts for full size chevy, chevelle, camaro and vega. For instance, I was not able to find the interior door panels for my 68. Impala but the number is in the Assembly manual

psss. ...Really one more last thing. Because this book was issued in 1976, they had already started to roll off older parts (60's era). For instance, when I looked for rear door panels for my 68 Impala, rear door panels stop at the early 70's. It is probable that this book in an earlier release, say vintage 1970, would be more complete for the 60's era for some of these parts. Don't be discouraged though because from what I have seen, the catalogs are quite complete in spite of the above example and augmented with the Assembly manual, you'll have no problem obtaining the part numbers you need.
