There exists an unknown quantity of original patriotic artwork that in varying degrees give Honor and Glory To God the Almighty.

As we come across these, we'll be scanning them and making them available for your viewing pleasure. If you have such images, we'd be glad to post them and give you full credit.

  • Our first image in the gallery is entitled Centennial Progress."  It depicts leading Founding Fathers and Presidents standing together. Above and to their right, is Lady Liberty. Above her is a bald eagle in flight. In front and center and prominently visible, an oversized Holy Bible.  The painting is by Montgomery Tiers, 1875.  IT is from the American Stanhope Hotel Collection, New York City.  I found this on the FRONT COVER of one of my wife's History books she had from a secular college. (My how times have changed!)

This is a dramatic picture well worth the wait to download 153K

        • Our second image is Constantino Brumidi's "The Apotheosis of George Washington".  This magnificent fresco is in the eye of the Capitol Dome in Washington D.C.  Covering some 4664 square feet, the massive fresco was begun in 1864 and completed in 11 months.  Following this masterpiece, Brumidi, "the Michelangelo of the Capitol," spent many years gracing the interior of the Capitol with his exquisite frescoes and oils to, in his own words, "beautify the Capitol of the one country in which there is liberty."

        • Embarkation of the Pilgrims.  This oil painting, also in the Capitol rotunda, depicts the dramatic beginning of a journey to the new world in search of freedom.  Painted by Artist Robert Weir.  Pilgrim Elder William Brewster, holding the Bible, on his knees, leads the pilgrims in prayer before the embarkation.  Not visible in the scanned image, but clearly visible to visitors in the Capitol Rotunda, are the words "The New Testament of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" on the pages of the open Bible.

        • Baptism of Pocahontas, by John G. Chapman, this oil painting has graced the Capitol Rotunda since 1840.  The historic Pocahontas, not the one dreamed up by Michael Eisners Disney revisionists, was a pagan Indian who humbly chose to follow Christ.  After her conversion, she became an influential speaker for the cause of Christ.

          • Pilgrim Thanksgiving. This painting depicts the first Thanksgiving celebrated by the Pilgrims at Plymouth Mass. The original intent of Thanksgiving was to give thanks to Almighty God for the harvest and His Divine protection which He had so generously graced them with. The modern day Thanksgiving all to often involves lots of things EXCEPT the saying of a table grace to give thanks to God for the previous years blessings.

          • United States Capitol Prayer Window. This exquisite stained glass is located in the private prayer room open only to U.S. Senators and House members. The stained glass depicts George Washington kneeling in prayer. Above and on both sides are clearly seen the words from Psalm 16:1 - "Preserve me, O God, for in Thee do I put my trust." This room was established by the 83rd Congress.

          • George Washington in prayer at Valley Forge. This famous painting depicts General Washington in prayer at Valley Forge Pennsylvania during the Continental Armies Winter encampment of 1777-78. That winter was unusually harsh and had a physical and spiritually debilitating effect on his men. Whatever he prayed, General Washington's prayers were answered. He and the men survived to fight another day and eventually crush the British.

          • **********************************************************

A third version of General Washington in prayer at Valley Forge.  This one is perhaps the most dramatic.  Clearly it is a winter sunrise scene.  Washington is kneeling next to his horse. This painting is Copyright 1999 by Arnold Friberg and used by permission of Friberg Fine Art.

          • While the Federal government tries to force an Alabama judge to remove a plaque containing the Ten Commandments, the U.S. Capitol contains uncounted hundreds if not thousands of engravings, paintings, sculptures, frescoes, stained glass and more, that in one form or another have reference to God and or Jesus Christ. What's more, they are all in or on one government building or another! For example, take this sculpture of Moses holding the Ten Commandments. Its location? No less than the Unites States Supreme Court Building.
